Our Artists
This list will be growing in the next few weeks, as relationships are formalized with a number of artisans.
Carl Johnson works in etching and watercolor. He has homes in Galena and Chicago. His work reflects a keen attention to architectural detail; we will have a number of framed prints available. See his work at www.cjart.net.
- Chef Ivo is the genius behind the Galena Canning Company. He is a Certified Executive Chef, trained at the Culinary Institute of America, and left a high-profile lifestyle to live more simply and locally. We’ll open with a selection of mustards, sauces and preserves—and, yes, we’ll have samples! More info is at www.galenacanning.com.
Kristina Shroeder is a Prairie Crossing resident and photographer. We’ll be featuring her wonderful nature photos from, literally, our own backyard—as well as some of her other work. See her photography at www.KristinasPhotos.com
- Melissa Pierson is a new, local artist. She works in acrylic, with an eye trained by her education in biology. She is an official butterfly observer, and her keen eye is evident in her paintings.
- Ben Behunin is a potter in Salt Lake City. This is stretching most definitions of 'Midwestern', but when you see Ben's work, you'll be glad I sought him out. He is the founder of Wild Rooster Artworks. His work reflects his sense of playfulness, while at the same time he is very serious about his craft. Find him at www.potterboy.com.
- Jack Turner is a multimedia artist from Valparaiso, IN. We carry his pottery and note cards, some of which are photos and others are Jack's graphic designs. Jack's hallmarks include the embellishments on his pieces, some fanciful and whimsical, others very symmetrical. See his work at www.jackturnerartworks.com.
- Jill Tortorella owns Antioch Pottery. Like several other of our artists, she has a national reputation in the summer art fairs. Her work is exquisite and highly functional, with little touches of fun that match the twinkle in her eyes. www.antiochpottery.com.
